The following is a summary of research activity in progress at the Australian Water Quality Centre during 2004/2005. The projects cover a range of topics that contribute directly to the key SA Water business objective to operate water and wastewater services in a way that provides a continuous, high quality supply, protects the health of the public and minimises environmental impacts.

Specifically, the outcomes of the Research  Program generate scientific knowledge that leads to:

  • Optimisation of existing water treatment processes to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Development of new, cost-effective treatment processes
  • Reduction of capital costs for new water treatment infrastructure through the development and implementation of innovative technologies.
  • Improved asset management.
  • Reduction of public health risk from potential chemical, biological and microbiological contaminants in drinking water.
  • Achievement of best practice approaches to operation.
  • Improved risk management capabilities for water quality and public health.
  • Input to strategic issues e.g. advice on water treatment, reservoir management
  • Generation of commercially valuable Intellectual Property and know-how.
  • Development of specialised, state-of-the-art analytical methods for water testing.
  • Consultancy opportunities.
  • Sustainable Competitive Advantage.
  • Commercialisation of new products, processes and services.
